5 Helpful Tips for Successfully Maintaining Your Mini-Fridge

Mini fridges are cute and convenient. If you have one in your home or in your dorm room, it’s essential that you know how to clean it properly. Cleaning it regularly will lengthen its life and allow you to make the most out of your investment.

Here are some tips on how you can adequately clean your mini fridge:

Keep It in the Right Environment

Your mini fridge needs to be in a proper environment to ensure that it will work properly. Therefore, you need to place your mini fridge away from direct sunlight or any heat source, such as a range or a hot water heater. Additionally, you need to place the mini fridge on an even surface.

If the fridge has a freezer, do not place it in an unheated area where the temperature dips below 60 degrees Fahrenheit. When it is stored in a room where the temperature is below 60 degrees Fahrenheit, the compressor will run less often, which will make the unit fail to keep food or ice frozen.

Turn It On Right the First Time

When you first plug in the mini fridge, turn it to a medium-cold setting. You can always adjust the thermostat later for the conditions and specific items that you will place inside the fridge.

Create Adequate Space Inside the Fridge

Make sure that all the items inside the fridge are properly spaced together. It shouldn’t be too crowded, otherwise, the cold air won’t be able to circulate properly and it won’t keep your food cold.

Conduct Regular Cleaning

Every month, clean the inside of your mini fridge. Wipe down the surfaces using a baking soda solution. To do this, all you need is to add one to two tablespoons of baking soda to one quart of warm water. Clean the inside of the fridge from top to bottom, including the shelves.

Next, wipe down the outside of the fridge every week. You can use the cleaner that is recommended by the manufacturer. Make sure to wipe away stains and handprints in your fridge immediately.

Another thing that you should do on a monthly basis is to clean the coils and vents. You can use a vacuum for this. This will help keep things cost-effective in the long run, as keeping the coils cleaned will ensure your fridge’s energy efficiency.

Do Regular Inventory

It’s crucial to remove and discard any perishable items in the fridge, especially if you will be away for a few weeks or several months. Should you need to move the fridge, make sure to remove everything inside it. However, before you leave or move the fridge, leave the door open and place a towel under and inside the fridge to absorb moisture for 24 hours.

Conclusion

Your mini fridge, despite its size, needs regular and proper cleaning if you want it to work optimally and last you a long time. Thankfully, the fridge should be easy to clean because of its size, and you probably don’t have a lot of items in it in the first place.

My mini refrigerator is cycling too often and leaking, which is why I’m currently looking for a shop that sells refrigerator parts. Well, right after fixing the matter, I’ll keep in mind to place it away from direct sunlight because apparently, this may damage it. Thank you for also sharing here that it must turn into a medium-cold setting right after plugging it.
