The internet is responsible for up to 5% of global emissions. That’s more than the airline industry.
A web design agency, it’s our responsibility to minimise the environmental impact of our work.
It is only a matter of course before website sustainability becomes legally mandated by government policy. Consumers are also becoming increasingly mindful of the environmental footprint of their device usage, and sustainability now factors heavily into their decision making.
All of this means that sustainable website design is no longer a ‘nice to have‘. Organisations must opt for solutions that puts people and planet first.
At Pixel Fridge, we want to make a difference. Our sustainability checklist contains a list of the techniques and tools we use during the design & development process, to ensure our work always puts people and planet first.
What’s in the sustainable website design checklist?
The checklist summarises the techniques and tools we use to create eco-friendly websites. Although this document forms part of our internal process, we’ve decided to share it as a helpful resource for other designers and developers. We hope it serves as a helpful reminder of the various ways to approach sustainable web design, and encourages discussions within teams.
We’ve split the suggestions across the main project phases :
- Discovery & planning
- UX & UI design
- Development
- Content creation
- Deployment and support
We hope you find the checklist useful! If you’d like to discuss any of the recommendations in more detail or have suggestions, drop us an email at [email protected].
